I know! And I am not even a lesbian! Is it so unimaginable?? ;) I also collect military weapons... My favorite is an M1 garand (I have three total) in nearly MINT condition! Though I really like my old 3040 Krag - I can't shoot it, because it is the same size as me :o

Ohhhh I love it! Reading these stories I see a picture of the action in my mind. I can feel my pulse increase! It makes me want to touch the terrain there.

Yes, my father is former marine and avid weapons collector. My Grandfather flew Avengers in the Pacific Theater...and so on for many generations.

About Algerian war, it's a bit more complicate ! 28000 death on french side, 157 000 on Algerian side but it has been stopped by the general De Gaules because it was a non sens this war ! We had 1 million black-foot ( the french living there and there was 9 million Algerians. After almost everybody back, it was clear even if we will have won this war that nothing will be back like before, so why continued ?
And about french, yes for sure we are not the best at war, but we are more cleaver than many others to save the life of peoples ! Petain has collabored, it's bad but he has save the life of millions of french. Chirac didn't want participate to the "game" of stolen the Iraq petrol without any reason !
But if we speak about war games, the best are the Israelians, even Saddam Hussein told one day he needs 10 iraquians soldiers to do 1 israelian !!!
It's true !

Of course!!!!! It's something I agree 100%! The Israelis have NO MATCH! I took some Krav Maga classes in Atlanta about three years ago, taught by an ex Israeli soldier. Brilliant man for sure. I enjoyed the classes but in the start you have to allow yourself to be punched and kicked - some in the stomach -as well as do the same to others. I can say nothing negative about it, just that I am not much a fan of something that requires that level of physical aggression. I prefer Pilates and I good run each day instead. But you have to imagine, the soldiers are all trained this way, they are like weapons. Remarkable people, indeed.

Yes, it's true, the Algerian war was nonsense. The death toll is dependent on whom you trust for fact... The Algerians will tell you it's nearly three times what the French say. One undisputed issue is that of the torture and war crimes committed by the French. It's on the level of something you expect to see in a German concentration camp. There was no excuse.

I think the Algerians have doubled their revenge on the French, however. I see they, along with the Moroccans, are turning Paris into "Little North Africa" It's mostly the Arabs, too, not the Amazigh.

Alex, are you familiar with the battles of the American civil war? The one I find most intriguing (beyond Gettysburg) is called the "Battle of the Crater". I am sure you can Google it, I was in touch a few years ago with a man who has combined some detailed accounts of the battle into a very interesting article. It was incomplete at the time, but I will search, maybe I can find it again. It was very interesting.
