Puisqu'on parle de porno US, je me demande comment font des studios comme Wicked Pictures pour "survivre" : faut payer les acteurs, louer les villas, les voitures, les monteurs vidéos, la publicité etc.
Tout ça pour voir leur film en free streaming sur des sites pirates.
Qui achètent encore des DVD pornos aux USA ?
Perso je paye un abonnement sur leur site mais c'est pas avec quelques membres qu'il vont renflouer les caisses.
Franchement je comprends pas comment ces studios arrivent à s'en sortir ?

The last year I have been in a sex show here maybe five times so I'm no expert. But I noticed all have DVD sections (I didn't know people still bought dvds) and there are always a few guys floating around the videos. Two of the biggest stores in Atlanta are literally 1/2 DVDs and 1/2 toys. I can't imagine they would commit this amount of retail space to the product if it was not driving sales.

As far as online downloads, I have no idea, but it seems there is still some money to be made in the DVDs here. Of course I am sure we are talking about a minuscule percentage when you consider all the illegal downloads, as you pointed out.

I mean, the pb with new movies (porn or another genre) is that they're available 2-3 hours only after they are on market. Amazing.

I really can't imagine what the actual numbers must be in each category when we are talking percent illegal, percent dvd sales and percent legal downloads. But from my novice observation, it seems there is still some money to be made. It's the older men that I have seen in those sections, too. Maybe they are not as computer savvy and this is the option.

Plus there is a whole demographic of people within a particular income bracket that do not even have cell phones, let alone internet access. They can't afford the $50+ a month for online access, but the $9 for a DVD now and then is affordable for them. When you put it in these terms, even the piracy is not free if you are paying big money for high speed internet for the purpose of downloading porn.

Something about Americans, we like to have something tangible - I think more than some other clutures, so maybe this is the draw for the dvd sales. Just a hopothesis.

USA is a place with 300 million people and curiously "in late" about the internet in many part of the country ! It's an avantage when we speak about DVDs and the only reason why Vivid, Wicked, Hustler and the other are still able to absorb the crisis and the piracy, because also the americans like to buy ...american !!!
In europe, even in my parents place in middle of the wood far of the progress theoretically, I have 20 mega internet line ! Bad for upload my work on the server for you guys because those bastard from Orange block it, but good for download any pirate video. This is the problem !

It just depends on the area and the income bracket. Even my Grandmum is on Facebook. Of course I doubt she is downloading a lot of porn (and if you are, Gran, and you are reading this, please let's never speak of this!).

But, as I said, there are many people in this nation without even a telephone/cell phone, and the cost of internet is relatively high, so if you are among those that are just getting by financially, internet ranks low on the list of utilities.

As far as speed, it's all about location. Where I grew up, there is still no public water (we had a well) to this day. Again, internet is low on the list when you see how many other utilities are not reaching everyone even in this decade. France is a little different story. We are talking about an entire country that is smaller than the state of Colorado (or Texas ). So even if you are "far off in the woods" it's relative. I think there may be parts of North Georgia where you can still make a living selling VHS tapes especially if you throw in a free Confederate flag with the purchase.
