I don't think you can blame him entirely. Russians are brought up being taught that the state will provide but you cannot question it - most Russians are happy with this. He's obviously happy to believe all the ridiculous propaganda put out by the Kremlin so he's a product of the regime. They don't have the benefit of a free press like we do in western Europe so they only get one side of the story. Some Russians are bright enough to question it, but he's clearly not one of them.
