there is a distinct difference between having a strong personality (being self-assured), and being superficial.
In fashion you have a collection of the most superficial girls from all 50 states. Not in all cases, of course, but generally speaking, you are dealing with individuals that have a stronger focus on the tangible and material - hence the propensity for the business.
