Please Pierre, right now 8k should always be offered in addition to 4k, not instead of 4k. I'm absolutely certain that the number of subscribers with 8k screens will be absolutely tiny compared to those with 4k screens, so withdrawing the 4k option really doesn't make sense. I don't know if TVs can typically downsample from 8k to 4k but even if they can we'd be talking about people downloading files 4 times as big as they need to be for no benefit. For those that like to stream rather than download, 8k will also pose unnecessary challenges.

Whilst I absolutely appreciate the drive for the highest picture quality, the world really is a very long way from 8k being remotely mainstream.

^Actually I realise this point isn't an issue since streaming in 4k is an option. As you may guess, I never using streaming to properly watch a scene, just sometimes to get an idea of the content. I download to watch scenes on my main TV (65" 4k OLED), and I'm certain I'm not alone in this approach.

I agree with you. It should not replace 4K. But there should be an option to still download in 4K quality while still watching in 8K. There must be some error

But on TV you need change the setting of image if you are watching an original master and up the lighting for more dynamic visual !!!

My TV is pretty well set up to produce an accurate picture. I hate the horrendous default settings most people use for TVs.
