Maybe he should have told her but I don't think it was an actual lie. He just never told her or it never came up or maybe he thought she knew already without telling. It's not something you say to a partner. 'Hey baby I use to get fucked in the ass by men but only for money'. That type of conversation never happens. If he was gay only for pay just like Angelo Goshack and Charlie Dean then I guess it's not a big deal to his true sexuality because it was only for money.
