5 things to know about the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine

Post by Eintracht »

Ok, while some are here in their imperalilstc frenzy, let's take a look on what the Russian invasion, besides the death of civilians, has done to people. The WEF has some interesting numbers:

5 things to know about the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine

More than half a million refugees have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.
The UN Refugee Agency has warned this number may reach 4 million in the coming days.
Here’s a snapshot of the scale of the humanitarian crisis – and how you can help.
In freezing temperatures, groups of mainly women and children have been arriving at Ukraine’s borders with eatern Poland, Slovakia and Hungary and with northern and north-eastern Romania and Moldova.

Queues have formed – stretching back dozens of kilometres in some instances – as people wait to get processed, with the time it takes to cross to safety ranging from hours to several days.

"I took a train from Kyiv to Lviv to a point where the taxi put us. I walked the last 50 kilometres," one Ukrainian woman told Reuters.

At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on 28 February, Dame Barbara Woodward, the British Ambassador to the UN, warned that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is causing a “humanitarian catastrophe”.

“As a result of President Putin’s decision to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a country of 44 million people is now on the brink of humanitarian catastrophe. Missiles have rained down on Kharkiv, with cluster munitions hitting residential areas and injuring residents. Disruption to supply chains has caused food shortages in Kramatorsk …

“Violence in Kyiv has forced people to seek refuge underground, with many thousands, including the elderly and disabled, unable to evacuate.”

Here’s a snapshot of the scale of the humanitarian crisis.

1. More than half a million Ukrainian refugees and rising
More than 660,000 people, mostly women and children, have fled Ukraine to neighbouring countries in the past six days, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said on 1 March.

There are reports of people waiting for up to 60 hours to enter Poland, while queues at the Romanian border are up to 20 kilometres long, UNHCR Spokesperson Shabia Mantoo told a briefing in Geneva.

2. How many Ukrainian refugees there could be
The UNHCR is planning for up to 4 million refugees in the coming days and weeks.

UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi told the UN Security Council: “I have worked in refugee crises for almost 40 years and I have rarely seen such an incredibly fast-rising exodus of people. I regret to say that unless there is an immediate halt to conflict, Ukrainians will continue to flee.”

3. EU countries have dropped entry requirements
The European Union is preparing to grant Ukrainians who flee the war the right to stay and work in the 27-nation bloc for up to three years, senior European officials said on 28 February, adding that EU border states would get help to cope with the arrivals. EU members Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary have land borders with Ukraine.

Slovakia has opened its borders to refugees without travel documents, while the Czech Republic has lifted its ban on Ukrainians crossing without COVID-19 certificates.

4. How much is needed
Red Cross agencies appealed on 1 March for $273 million to provide food, water and shelter to millions of people in Ukraine and to those who have fled abroad.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies – the world's largest disaster relief network – issued the joint appeal as a huge Russian armoured column bore down on Kyiv, six days after Moscow's invasion began.

"We need the funds to address the humanitarian needs, which are already staggering – food, water, shelter, healthcare, psychological support – and they are growing by the hour," ICRC Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Martin Schüepp told a news briefing.

5. How you can help
Donations to organizations such as the ICRC and the International Rescue Committee will pay for urgent supplies, including blankets and cooking stoves.

The UNHCR says that fundraising for displaced families by organizing events through work or at school is a way to take positive action and bring people together to help during the crisis.

It also warns about sharing misinformation online about the situation in Ukraine, suggesting using accredited sources including the BBC and the World Economic Forum. If you’re unsure of whether a news source is accredited, it suggests checking here.

Scared russian "liberators."

I saw this video. A bunch of fringe people took to the streets because the vast majority of people, don't let themselves out on the streets. Do you think they reflect the opinion of most people? All the scumbags have been given guns, the felons have been released and given guns. There is colossal looting in the cities. You think they're the ones who are so brave? They are cowardly stinkers, because the bitches know that the Russian army does not work according to the "American scenario of warfare", so they hide in the cities, hiding behind ordinary people. Why don't they let women and children out of the cities? Okay men, but women and children, why don't they let them out? What is the problem with letting them out? Can you explain, dumbass? Because they are cowardly and cunning jackals. About the "American scenario of warfare", you can see my post with pictures. The only thing is that the Russian military has not unlimited patience, and soon these marginal people will be turned into charred heads.

After reading the thread he never attack anyone first. He express his frustration for people who are not reading his post and got called names for it so he in return responded by calling the other poster stupid.
Not surprising that you think that was since the first thing you said when appearing here was to say “I am here for support the Russians”.
This interpretation of his behavior here is quite quite exclusive.
After appearing, blaming everything on the west, denying flatly that the Russians do anything wrong and claiming all the attacks on civil targets were done by the Ukrainians themselves he was quickly falsified and then attacked members and you don’t see that?
Sure, with your bias, no wonder.

All I'll say on this matter is that good ol' Ein-stain has some nerve calling anyone stupid, what with his hysterical characterization of Trump as an 'antidemocratic sociopath'. Well, sociopath is a character judgement, he might or might not be one, but the whole term... not even CNN's talking heads believe that crap. If anything, Trump's too liberal for his own good, and for what used to be his constituency.

Aaah mspm (= appreciation for marginal small penis masturbation) the guy who trivialized the holocaust. No wonder you think Trump is too liberal (!!) since you characterize “Mein Kampf” as “nice but too mellow”.
Having somebody like you on your side is a clear sign to be on the wrong side.
Actually this is my second account here. I have an account with the same username except the 2. My account messed up when mr pierre upgraded this forum. Been a member here for a long time but not very active. I have interacted a few times with pierre.

Anyways, I am not anti american, or anti ukranian. I don't dislike putin nor do I like him. I just know he is communist and thats not the lifestyle I want. I don't dream about living in his country. I feel the same way about the chinese communist but I have a slight dislike of them.

I know how things work in democracy. I know how the 2 party system work. I know a lot of talk going on in a democracy. Which in the end its BS or whatever benefit their agenda.

I also read why Putin is doing this and thats to the extent of my understanding of the situation. Thats why I am for putin on this. I feel in order to avoid more bloodshed the ukranians should just keep the way things are instead of provoking the russian in wanting to be part of the west. They can accomplish the same thing the west has by remaining status quo. We also do a great job in grooming the communist party anyway without them joining our system .

I started reading this thread because of diversity. I know pierre has a lot of followers in Europe and eastern europeans. It is good to see how and what they think- what they believe in as long as they don't force their belief on me. Will it change me to follow what they believe in?. No, I am set on my ways and enjoy my freedom. I don't want to get all my source just from the news. Its also good to see what regular people thinkg of the situation. With all this said their argument and belief is valid.

Who the fuck are you (the U.S. and NATO)?
What the fuck makes you think you have the right to interfere in the affairs of a sovereign state?
Why the fuck do you think you know what a sovereign nation needs?
Why the fuck do you dictate your morals to sovereign nations?
Why the fuck do you destroy the legitimate rulers of sovereign nations?
Why the fuck are you completely destroying the economies of sovereign nations?
Why the fuck are you destroying millions of people; women, children of these nations?
Why the fuck do you impose your way of life on sovereign states, especially those with traditional Muslim societies, where democracy has never been a tradition in state governance?
Why the fuck do you decide who is right? Who is to blame?
Why do you think anyone has given you these rights? Aside from your arrogance, greed, and irrepressible ambition, you have no morals. You don't give a fuck about the lack of UN sanction for your lawlessness. Who gave you the sanction to destroy sovereign states?
Just because you have a big army and a wallet?
Aren't you taking too much on yourself?
In fact, your agony is near. Your shameful escape from the natives in sandals in Afghanistan is the beginning of your agony. Sooner or later you will have to answer for your outrage.

P.S. Carla Del Ponte is a former Attorney General of Switzerland and former prosecutor of the UN International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in her book "The Hunt. Me and the War Criminals" (2008), talks about cases of Kosovo Albanians cutting out and selling organs from living Serbian prisoners, trafficking drugs and women. That the hysteria about genocide against Kosovo Albanians by Serbs is an absolute lie fabricated by the CIA and representatives of NATO countries. And it is impossible to bring Milosevic back. He died in prison. That's it. Lies and hypocrisy is your motto!

I wrote about the historical background, reasons, prerequisites, and motivation of Russia in making the decision to conduct a special operation in Ukraine in my very first post in this thread. I will not repeat it. My opinion is unchanged.
And most importantly! Everyone will answer for his own sins. But, it is not for you to lecture us!
