Well hard to answer because there are probably new rules 40 years later ...
In my time there was a precise way to stop a man until he was “calm” and once he was handcuffed it was forbidden to do anything else than move him to the car or put him on the ground seat down ( as was Floyd in the first video )
Of course if someone started be agressive you should react as you can, but sadly the criminal have always a huge advantage on you. I remember once I fighted with two brother the day before Christmas 1985 and I broke the jaw of one of them and made a huge scratch on the face of the second one when I finally stopped him and he fell on the wall with stones !!!
They sued me and even with an inch almost broken, because I went to work next day and when I could have stayed home for rest, my hierarchy said I was “overzealous” and probably guilty for what the two guys accused me ...
And it has been like that many time for me !!! So it is not an easy job to be cops and not do a mistake ... hesitating can signs your death but fast react can send you in jail for ever ...
Concerning Floyd I see this today :
So yes he wasn’t an angel but from the video online in my opinion he did not deserved to be pressured for 9 minutes especially after he beg they let him breath !!!
Just in this picture above you can see the full weight of Chauvin is on his neck and back, it’s not just an immobilization it’s a slow murder in my opinion because you can ignore what means for someone such situation. If you play Rugby for instance and you get the weight of people on you, you feel fast you could pass out and die if nobody moves out ... Chauvin has no excuse I think ...
