I have an update on this topic..... My mum has had to go to counselling to cope with what I am doing but says that 'it is to help her with her problems not that I am doing that 'wrong' thing!' Progress!
Je ne sais pas pour les autres mais moi j'ai toujours séparé le personnage showbizz, du personnage privé , aucune raison de juger ou de se mettre en colère ou d'avoir honte ! Si c'était mes enfants comme Pierre je n'irais surement pas voir , mais ce n'est pas un non plus un truc dont je parlerais avec eux .
Par contre si quelqu'un se permettait de juger leur activité là ça pourrait me mettre hors de moi , vis à vis des moralisateurs bien sûr !

I apologise that I do not speak French but the point you make about separating the two 'characters' is a very good one and one that many people struggle with. Good on you for having such an open mind!
I would imagine mum was a more difficult conversation the the workmates.
I have heard mothers can be more accepting then fathers. It goes back to the "That/those men are defiling my little girl" who of course is now an adult.
I still remember the extra "firm" handshakes when meeting a girls father for the first time.
