What Speed can you download?

Post by uboxer »

Hi,

I was wondering what speed can you download at? I tried using a few different download managers and the best I can get is about 200k/sec while I can get about 1000k/sec on other sites. Has anyone been able to download faster? What would be a good download manager to use? Thanks everyone.

Do not user a download manager!!!! That incurs in bandwidth and server costs, which in the end make the site less profitable and more expensive to maintain!

The speed is fast enough to download everything just do not abuse!

I can download at around 1600k which is about maximum of what my 20Mbit connection is capable of, so I am not complaining.

I am using a download manager as well, but I am doing so solely for workflow-related reasons. I usually don't want to sit around watching some progress-bar, so I schedule a few downloads and come back when thay've finished. Regarding increased server cost, most download-managers speed up downloads by opening additional connections. I think mine is set to 4 connections and if I was downloading using my browser, I would probably just start 4 concurrent downloads and the result would be the same, if not worse from a server-load wise perspective, as if I had not used a Download Manager. It really doesn't affect the speed much, anyway, using a download manager.
