Editing and exporting in 4k with a MacBook Pro is a pain in the ass..
Now I know why you're struggling to get the updates done in time
Also your standard exporting profiles are way too heavy! FCPX can export using Compressor profiles adjusted to your specifics..
30Mbps could be for example 20mbps.. quality would be exactly the same
FCP X is great and I love it. The bug of the 10.4.1 has been corrected and 4.2 is perfect now. Export are real time even less if I let the renders been done, so I think it's very powerfull. My friend using premiere on PC don't export a 2 hours 4K video in less that 2 hours with their laptop ( and I have a lot of effect inside, color, logos etc ... )

I know FCPX is great. I wouldn't take anything else nowadays.. Premiere is good but lacks optimization for Metal.
But your laptop will always throttle down in CPU and GPU speed after lets say 30 minutes of exporting because of the heat. Laptops arent made for really long renders n stuff.
It will start off using 3.5 Ghz but after that 3/4 of time maybe use 2Ghz @ 65C instead of 3.5Ghz @ 88-90C
Apple unfortunately still cant get their act together when it comes to throttling. They choose silence over power.
I use a 2013 12-core Mac Pro with 2xD700 and 64GB. Long projects with a lot of LUTs and filters should be done on a desktop IMO
Anyway my 2 laptop works almost non-stop and the project I export are not 30 minutes as you can see on the sites.
Sometime 3 hours and it export the 4 K in real time which is great I think.
