Ahh Pierre, you are right my friend, Mike Tyson ..... everyone thinks he's a joke but when you watch his old fights, before prison, before Don King, when Cus D'amota was his manager, Tyson was killing people. He demolished every heavyweight of his generation ! You know your boxing Pierre !

Tyson will forever be one of my idols! He was a wrecking machine! To quote Rocky IV.. "What he hits, he destroys!"

I love this training footage of him when he was younger. The power, the hand speed, he had it all! If Cus wouldn't have died, he would have easily been the greatest of all times! I personally still think he is. Clay in his prime vs Tyson in his prime---no contest! Tyson all the way!

Well, Mr. President, I'm here maybe for first time disagreeing with you. I agree Tyson has been the best boxer of his generation, and since him, nobody has reach his level. Not even the Klitschko (with all due respect, the worst heavyweight champion of History. Just some mountain of muscles, with titles for the ashtonishing lack of rivals nowadays in heavyweight division - on the contrary, too many on welter or mediumweight, where there can be 4 or 5 champions absolutely great, like Mayweather, Pacquiao, Márquez and so on).

But returning to the point, comparing Tyson with Clay (not Ali, but Clay, the Clay before the suspension, the Clay Gold Medalist in Rome, the Clay that defeated Liston, Patterson, etc) is a very very daring question. I've seen a lot of boxing and I haven't seen anything like Clay's boxing. Anything.

Remember, Youdaman, how Ali defeated Foreman in Kinsasha in '75, when Foreman was Foreman, and his punch power was similar (if not superior, but slower) to Tyson's. And he defeated him in 15th round, after suffering a beating, just to exhaust Foreman, and being able to knock him out after that beating. I truly believe that even Marziano could not beat Cassius Clay.

And not because Tyson, or Foreman, or Frazier (much better than Tyson too) or Marziano couldn't knock out Clay for power, because his punches were stronger and heavier, but because of the speed. The fastness. Tyson wouldn't have even smelled Clay. He would have received 3 or 4 left jabs plus 1 or 2 right straights without touching Clay. Clay's feet were the best EVER, and he was heavyweight. And not the strength of his punches, but the speed and frequency of them was what destroyed rivals. And considering that Tyson was an animal, accustomed to knock out his challengers in one or two rounds, four as maximum, his defense was nothing to point out. He wouldn't have stood 8 or 10 rounds with Clay, no way ;) ;) ;)

   I knew there would be a lot of people that would disagree! Unfortunately, we'll never see that fight! So, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree!

One thing, though... If the Ali/Foreman fight took place at MSG, do think Ali would have still won that fight? By the way, the Ali documentary "When We Were Kings" is absolutely incredible! I'm sure you've seen it!

By the way, Ali defeated Foreman in the 8th round...

Take care, man.

Yes it was in the 8th (I was thinking in nthe thrilla in Manila against Frazier where the fight stopped at the end of 4th-beginning of 15th).

Well, it's a tough question. I think Ali would have won the same because he gave all the ring to Foreman, he let him play his fight, explode his strong points and even so, he beat him anyway. It's certain that Ali had the environmental support, but... a punch is a punch, no matter where you are. Foreman had the chance to throw his best and lost anyway.

I consider Clay the best not only for her boxing but also for his mental superiority to all his rivals. I think Tyson was a great boxer but he didn't have Clay's intelligence over the ring. He was a destruction machine that when caught one rival off guard send him to the floor, but he was not a tactician (Clay-Ali was) neither a "complete" boxer. I repeat that his early winnings in most of his fights make me suspect that he was superb attacking, because he didn't defense. Anyway he was the best from 1990 until today, no question.
But to be the BEST in history, you need something more than that.

Of course I've seen it. Tremendous documentary, recommended to everybody, either they like boxing or not.

The moment when a journalist says to Clay that he has seen Liston and Clay interrumpts him asking "Ain't he ugly?" is a must for me

Guys, Tyson wasn't beating people in his prime, he was killing heavyweight fighters, this has never been seen before, period.
